4 Questions to Ask Yourself When Making a Pivot in Your Coaching Business

One of the key components of building a successful and aligned coaching business is serving your clients in a way that lights you up and makes you feel good. As entrepreneurs, we can grow and expand a lot – and this means our businesses might evolve with us, too! What once used to be our dream client and ideal niche might not be anymore – and that’s okay. While making a business pivot might seem scary or intimidating at first, these are often just signs of excitement about stepping into something more expansive.

While you might be eager and excited to shift your coaching business into something that feels more aligned, it’s important to get extremely clear on where you are headed and who you want to be serving, first. (Check out this podcast episode to hear a live coaching call example of how to work through this!)

Here are 5 questions to ask yourself before making a pivot in your coaching business that will set you up for success:

1. Who is my new ideal client?

Start by asking yourself what lights you up the most when working with a client. Is it a certain topic you talk about with them? Is it working with someone who has a specific type of problem?

Once you’re clear on what feels good and aligned to you, start to paint a mental picture of your new dream client. Who are they? What is their age? What do they do for a living, and where do they live? What are they interested in? Most importantly, what is the main issue that they are looking for support with – and why are they looking to invest in someone else to help them achieve this type of support?

Getting clear on why your client is seeking help is an extremely important first step!

2. Does my marketing clearly reflect who I serve and how I serve them?

Now that you have an idea of who you want to help and what type of support they’re looking for, it’s important to make sure any social media bios and marketing materials reflect this in a very clear and concise way. For example, consider adding an “I help” statement to your Instagram bio. This can be a single sentence that addresses how you help “x” type of person achieve “y,” so that they can do or feel “z”.  In order to make it feel as relevant as possible, speak to how your ideal client feels on a daily basis and prioritize the buzzwords that would resonate with that person the most.

3. What is the intention behind my coaching container or offer?

If you want to best serve your new client, creating intentional containers and offers that help them achieve their desired transformation is key. Make sure that every program and package you put out addresses a specific concern that is relevant to your client. If your ideal client has a specific issue they are looking to resolve, your offer should be the obvious solution!

4. How do I create content that clearly attracts my new ideal client?

Just like any offers or containers you create, infusing your content with intentionality is extremely important if you want to attract the right clients. Since social media is the first place new potential clients are likely to be exposed to you, you’ll want to create a mix of content that addresses any objections they might have about working with you and content that paints a really clear picture of what the end result of working with you could look like for them. Since you probably already have plenty of helpful existing content, consider how you might be able to repurpose it to speak to your new ideal client.

Now that you’re clear on who you want to serve and how you want to serve them – and your content and marketing clearly reflects this – it’s time to let your energy do the work! With every offer and piece of content you put out, embody what you want to teach – and you will magnetize your ideal clients. If the energy behind everything you put out reflects how you want your ideal clients to feel, they will naturally be drawn to you!
