The Chinese Restaurant Effect: Can Low-Carb Foods Spike Your Blood Sugar?

Most health-conscious people are savvy to the importance of balancing their blood sugar and avoiding chronic blood sugar spikes. Marketing phrases like “balance your blood sugar” and “blood-sugar-regulating” are almost as popular as “keto” and “low-carb” nowadays, partly because they go hand-in-hand. Healthy blood sugar control is not only a key marker of overall health, but it’s also key for maintaining a healthy weight or losing weight if necessary. But what if you’re eating a ketogenic or low-carb diet and still having huge blood sugar spikes? Can lettuce spike your blood sugar?! Yes, it can happen.

Paleo Trout Almondine

White fish has a reputation for being boring and bland, and sadly, it often is. After you make this recipe, though, you’ll never think of white fish the same way!

The fish in this dish is light and fresh, but overall the meal has plenty of depth and dimension thanks to the rest of the flavors paired with the trout!

Serves: 4

Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 rainbow trout fillets, skin-on
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • ½ cup slivered raw almonds
  • Juice from 2 lemons
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • Sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Place the ghee in a pan over medium heat until browned (around 2 minutes), reserving some ghee to sear the fish. Turn off the heat and whisk the browned ghee with the lemon juice. Set aside.
  2. Salt both sides of the trout. Saute the trout in about 1 tbsp ghee until translucent on both sides. Cook the flesh side first and skin side second, about 2 minutes per side until cooked through (it should be white when fully cooked). Set cooked fish aside.
  3. Add the lemon ghee to the pan over medium heat, and add almonds to pan until browned (around 3-5 minutes).
  4. Serve sauce and almonds over the fish with minced parsley on top. Enjoy!

Nutrition and Supplements to Get Rid of Acne (Become a Member for Access)

Nutrition and Supplements to Get Rid of Acne

I spent years of my life struggling with acne, and most of those years I dealt with painful, cystic acne. I tried every product under the sun (and even prescription medications), but it wasn’t until I changed my diet and lifestyle that I really saw major improvement in my skin, and I learned that working from the inside out is the best way to eliminate acne for good.

In this post I’m going to share the nutrition and supplement recommendations I suggest to anyone trying to get rid of their acne longterm. These are not quick, overnight fixes. Again, to truly get rid of acne, you have to address the root cause and make lifelong changes rather than just manage the symptom. Supporting your gut health, supplementing any nutrient deficiencies, and avoiding dietary acne triggers are usually the key steps to clearing up the skin.

Lower Body Booty Band Workout 1 (Become a Member for Access)

Lower Body Booty Band Workout 1

Booty bands are one of my favorite pieces of workout “equipment” because they can add a lot of resistance while still being lightweight, small, and easy to travel with. This workout focuses on your lower body, and it’s a great option if you’re looking for something low-impact or a workout to do while traveling.

Adjust the rep ranges to your fitness level, and make sure that you’re doing each rep with proper form. If your form breaks down, you’re doing too many reps! Make sure you warm up / prime your body before getting started.
